We founded the Appalachian Grapplers Association in early 2024 out of our passion for Jiu Jitsu and a desire to share it with our community. We envisioned a welcoming place where people come together to train, learn from each other, and grow — all at a low cost and with no contracts.
Our dedicated instructors volunteer their time to teach classes and oversee open mat sessions, ensuring that all proceeds go back into the club. This allows us to maintain a high-quality training environment without financial barriers.
Whether you're looking to learn self-defense, improve your fitness, or become part of a supportive and tight-knit community, we're here for it. Join us, and let's push each other to new heights.
See you on the mats!
BJJ, or "involuntary yoga", focuses on taking ones opponent down to the ground, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds.
Our instructors are experienced and will help you advance your skills whether you're a seasoned practictioner or you've never stepped on the mat.
"I have been training various styles of martial arts for 25+ years and wanted to add Ju Jitsu to my skill set without getting beat up as I am in my early 60's. The teachers and students here are really a great group taking the time to teach and drill!!! In the short time here I can say I have learned more than I have at any other schools because these folks take the time to teach and apply those skills. The other item that impacts us as students is our fee - they offer several options that divinely fit into everyone's budget so we can be here long term. I would recommend this school to everyone!!!!!!"

"My 17 year old daughter and 15 year old son love coming to class every chance they get! They have great instructors who are hands on so my kids get a lot of one on one training and techniques. It has definitely elevated my kids grappling to another level! They get experience grappling opponents of all ages so they have to adjust to each one’s skillset. It’s a fun friendly atmosphere that I would encourage any parents to bring their kids to!"

"I started training at AGA for the first time in May of 2024. I am 49 years old and having never trained in wrestling or jiu jitsu, I was a bit nervous and scared but I can honestly say that everyone there took me under their wings. The instructors are knowledgeable, supportive and they absolutely do it for the love of Jiu Jitsu and it shows! The atmosphere is encouraging and attitudes are positive. I have absolutely had a blast learning and watching my body change and adapt to BJJ. If you are looking to learn self-defense, get physically fit, start a new hobby or compete in BJJ tournaments, AGA is the place for you. Seriously nothing but Good Vibes and I highly recommend this place. I’m so glad I started my journey with these fine folks. Come on out and join us in 2025!"

With several years of training already under my belt they have only added to that with not only their sharing of skills and knowledge but with great attitudes and an eagerness to help and great professionalism. A very solid group of people on and off the mats highly recommend if your looking to get into grappling wether for self defense exercise or just looking for a fun activity with good people come check them out."
